About Us – futurelab

FutureLab is an interfaculty unit of Cracow University of Technology, founded in 2019 with creative and ambitious students of the University in mind. Young researchers receive comprehensive support in carrying out their projects, under the scientific supervision of PK’s academic staff.

FutureLab is a space together with experts, work on solving problems of modern cities and enterprises, system integration and network creation, and engineering design. At FutureLab PK, interdisciplinary activities take place on topics such as:

engineering.

The uniquely Polish way of “learning by doing,” implemented by FutureLab, allows students to prepare well for entering the labor market — the skills they acquire respond to their practical needs, including patenting inventions, promoting their own achievements, or self-presentation.

FutureLab PK fulfils its role by providing funding in the following areas:

Training

Each FutureLab PK project group can participate in selected trainings or workshops. The topics of the trainings depend on the subject of the project. futurelab.pk.edu.pl

The provided lectures and training are aligned with the educational offer of all faculties of PK and respond to the needs of the socio-economic environment, as well as the research areas carried out at the university:

architecture, urban planning, smart construction, transport, civil engineering, renewable energy sources, power networks, IT, design, modern materials, composite technologies, material and structural modeling and numerical analysis, mechanics, mobility management, city development strategies, policy-making, public space design.

There are also external training sessions in specialist design, patent law, and soft skills (e.g. self-presentation / working in front of a camera / promoting a project), and others tailored to the needs of a specific group.

This support is for project groups’ participation in conferences, external workshops, site visits, or carrying out scientific experiments away from Kraków. FutureLab finances the most cost-effective way of transport (train, bus, coach) and accommodation costs.

Depending on needs, it can also cover non-standard costs specific to a given trip, subject to justification and approval.

Consumable Materials

FutureLab covers the cost of materials used by a group while developing new technology, concept, or invention — for example, screws, 3D printing filament, electronic components, stationery, resin mixtures, chemical reagents, etc.

It is also possible to purchase high-value equipment (computers, printers, drills, thermal cameras, etc.). These remain as fixed assets in FutureLab, and after the project ends, are passed on to subsequent project groups as needed.

Every project can receive support in promotion and media. Students can be trained by top specialists in self-presentation, public speaking, social media, or working on camera if there are public appearances planned.

FutureLab also supports trips to conferences or invention exhibitions through branding (business cards, rollups, posters, etc.). Additionally, FutureLab staff help in media relations, preparing press releases and articles for external media and PK media, producing photos and films for social media.
